I am kind of excited but don't really have many other friends that are into birds like I am so I just wanted to share some of my excitement here.

I am getting an African Grey parrot from a friend that has to rehome her Grey due to a change in family circumstances and she asked me if I wanted Izzy. I currently just have some Zebra and society finches and have wanted an African Grey parrot for over 20 years now..I had parrots and cockatiels when I was in college but had to re-home then when I went away from home to finish up my last 2 years of college and have been longing for another large parrot for a long time.

So, I feel pretty fortunate that I just fell into this opportunity to get an African Grey free that is already very tame, talks up a storm and has a wonderful silly personality. I should be getting her this coming weekend.

So added to my household of 2 dogs, 2 cats, 4 finches and a 13yr old teenager will be a goofy African Grey. I just have warned my daughter not to start teaching her stupid phrases and swear words.

Izzy will also be some good practice with my photography too..

Congrats on the arrival of your new friend Michelle. Greys are amazing birds and it sounds like she's moving into a great home. Your experience with larger birds is a plus for you both.

My wife and I have 26 Conures and two Amazon Parrots. The Conures are my favorites, they have a lot of personality and are very affectionate.

I haven't done any photos of the birds in several years but in the past have set up a make-shift studio in the house and had some fun. It helps to have an assistant if you do this. The birds will need attention while you are shooting and it helps to get them distracted and behaving in ways that will allow for good shots.

Here's some samples.

Crimson-bellied Conures for the cute factor :):

I hope you have many happy years with Izzy. If she's anything like our Parrots, she'll be barking like a dog and meowing like a cat in no time. :D

Wow Steve those are great photos!! I had a blue fronted amazon before! I also had a Green Cheek Conure for a short time two years ago. I hand tamed it for someone and kept it for a year before she was ready to go to her new home. Here are some pics of the Green cheek with one of our cats Smokey. He loved the bird..

Great looking Green Cheek. Funny to see cats and birds getting along. We have a Standard Poodle but he doesn't give the birds a second look, not interested in anything that doesn't smell like people food. :)

One of my favorite Conures is Bob, a Green Cheek. He got his name from his head bobbing dance.
