Okay, I only started shooting with a DSLR about 2 years ago. I shot with a P&S for at least 10 years prior...but only for work photos on jobsites.

I have learned a lot about photography...what I have really learned is how much I do not know. :D and I am happy about that, because I really love to put the effort in to learn something new - a real challenge in so many different ways.

So, now I am learning about editing images. I am much newer at that than photography...really just months into it.
I have the following software:
LR3
CS5 - just received it today - I fought the need for this, but the recent price reduction made this a no brainer to purchase
NIK
Camera Raw 6.xx

I have read posts, and articles about processing, and became a little confused by all of the different methods available and actually used.
So, I also purchased more books than I should have.
Well, If I had to recommend 1 book for beginners who have the same or similar software, this is what I recommend:
Real World - Camera Raw, by Jeff Schewe and Bruce Fraser

After all the reading I have done, this book has helped tremendously by removing a lot of my confusion. The information packed into the first 267 pages is without a doubt very much worth the extra time necessary to read and reread until understanding what has been presented.
The authors have presented the information, including just enough background info to help me understand and pull together all the other stuff I have read into a nice little package.

Now, if only I can figure out which way to point the damn camera....;)

just a few of my thoughts...
Pierre

Thanks for the link.
After a few tries at processing, I am going to start posting some of my photos...can't wait to see what others think of some of my efforts.

Well, that thread is a great place to put your Real World Camera Raw "learnings" to work!

Another thing to check out is one of the very good books on Lightroom. Three good authors are Victoria Bampton, Scott Kelby and Marting Evening -- any one of them (or more than one) would be excellent to help you get up to speed with LR and the Real World book would work right along side since Camera Raw uses the same Raw processing "engine" as LR.

Thanks for all the help you are providing me.
I am one of those people who sort of get hogtied/slowed down by trying to learn too much before actually doing.
I have a really nice library of books, and a long list of items bookmarked during my research (maybe 600 different sites/webpages).

The link you sent me to has some really good info, and is only 600 pages long...I love to read, so I guess I have more to do. I guess it is a good time to not have the real need for much sleep...

Thanks
Pierre

600 pages? I think I'm set at the forum default for pages and there are only 229 or so pages. But there are still over 3000 posts!

Sorry, you are correct. Just think how much faster I will now be able to learn. :D

I think DPP 3.9 Canon software is a good basic PP software for raw and jpg (rgb tab). Not as "powerful" as LR3 or CS5 but hey, it's free. ;)
