How do I edit this?

This is a small portion of a photo of a woman standing on the far side of a horse and hugging its neck. She's wearing bluejeans and a multicolored shirt. They are the only part of this photo that's not either hands or horse and I'd really like to isolate them so I can make them less noticeable. The only way I can think of is to blow it up as large as possible and start painting!

I have Gimp and PSE, but not PS. If this is doable and somebody can point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it. I just have no idea how to approach this with all that hair.

Darken them?
Don't know what version of PSE, but a masked curves adjustment layer would do the trick...

Yes, darken them. At least, that's my thought at this point.

You might look at cloning the horses neck down a little to cover the jeans and extend the mane to cover the rest. I was able to see the whole pic on your flickr and was able to clone it pretty well.

Seems like it would look funny. Are you still able to recognize that it's a horse?

I'm pretty sure they don't wear harnesses, but I could be wrong. But seeing the whole picture might have helped; I was just trying to save POTN a little disk space.

Pretty much. You might be able to crop the bottom a little tighter t elliviate some of that.
