I shoot all soccer with a Canon 7D, 70-200 f/2.8L, and a monopod. I generally shoot at 1/500, f/2.8, with ISO around 1250 - 1600 (The lighting at RFK Stadium is legendary for being poor). I think I'll make this an ongoing thread with my favorite shots from the games I shoot.

Nice shots, but you don't have any of the HUGE story of the night: Charlie Davies' return. Where do you like to stand when shooting soccer? It seems to me to be a little too tight into the box. I prefer being along the outside edge of the penalty area, gives you a far better look at scoring chances.

Haha, yup. I set up on the north end of the field, and unfortunately they brought him on partly through the 2nd half, so I didn't get much of a chance at him. Bummer, because those were the money shots that night. I've been experimenting with my location in regards to the box and the touch line. If I get too close to the touch line, I miss some great action in the corners. If I get too close to the box, I miss a lot of the set pieces. This year, I'm going to try to move around appropriately.

I get what you're saying about missing action. That's why i keep a wide-zoom on my second body. If you're only shooting with one, you gotta do what you gotta do. Nice work with the RFK lighting. I've only been there once, but I must admit, it was far from state-of-the-art. I may run some recovery on those yellows though; a few shots are really blown out, but that's since you were probably metering off of United's black kit.

Yup, the lighting at RFK is not only awful, but it is variable throughout the field, so I can't even really meter. I just shoot at 1/500 and f/2.8 with ISO set to auto. I have to count on the camera metering for me. Unfortunately this results in some shots getting ruined, but in general, the 7D does a pretty decent job of it. Thanks for the advice on the yellows.

Generally I find it to be ok, but I'm thinking about upping it to 1/640 to get some more sharpness.
