Lightroom religiously backs up every week onto my C: drive. I back my C: drive up twice a week onto an external drive.

My question is this.
I have 48 backups of Lightroom on my C: drive.
How many of them do I need to keep?
Is it an incremental backup each week or is it a total back up each week that would mean I only need keep the last 3 or 4 backups.

Its total. I keep the last three. But why backup to the C? If the disc goes down it will take both the original catalog and the backup with it. Why not back up directly to the external?

When a backup is ready to start it pops up a dialog where you have coices (Backup, Skip, etc). On that dialog is a destination (it's default until you change it) and a Choose button -- click that and browse to the destination of your choice.

By the way, this is covered in Lightroom Help -- if you search Help for "backup" and click it a few times you will come to the "Backing Up the Catalog" section in the "Managing Catalogs and Files" chapter, and on page 55 (of my version) will be a section on "Choose the Backup Catalog Location"!

Lightroom Help is always the first place to turn when you have a question!

Thanks for your prompt answer to my question.

I did search this forum and the Adobe forum site but did not find anything as concise as your reply. In fact most of what was said there was way beyond me

Yeah, sometimes forums get scattered because it's humans doing an off-the-cuff response.

So, it's always good advice to resort to Help, especially since Lightroom has a very good, concise Help module!
