For a short sequence, you could have him drive under a bridge over the highway; rent a U-haul & shoot from it... FrankC - 20D, RAW, Manual everything...

It's not hard to make booms for cameras. You just need a way to remotely trigger the camera and attach it to the end of a boom. You will need nerves of steel to hang your equipment off of home made equipment though. hehe.
