After receiving an e-mail about a firmware update and wanting to do my first firmware update, I wasn't able to figure it out after going on the Canon website and downloading the file. I saw the sticky EOS Firmware Updates but only saw links for the downloads. Can somebody please help me download my first update!?

The instructions are included in the .EXE file you download.

I'm only familiar with Windows, perhaps you can translate to Mac. Execute the .EXE file and it creates a folder with the .PDF instructions and the file to be placed on your memory card.

There's still no file. There's an icon that reads 60d00109.fir.

put that FIR file on the root of your memory card and turn on the camera. Browse the menu to where it displays the current firmware and there should be an option to update to the one you copied to your memory card.

Something as simple as a card reader? Or do they not exist for macs? Maybe get a Windows (or Linux :)) based computer?

Buy one?

At least the Windows Models are cheap (unless you want something other than USB 2).

You can use the EOS utility. The instructions are in the pdf that came with the update.
