I currently own an Eos 20D with 18-55 IS, 24-70 EX DG MACRO and 70-200 EX APO HSM.
Apart from the fact that my 24-70 is not autofocusing properly i am pretty much happy with my equipment.
So, since i like the range of this lens very much i'd love to buy a canon body that has AF fine tuning and, maybe, video feature too.
The choices are not so many as i expected.
The 5DII and 7D cost too much for my "income" although i like them a lot (especially the FF) .
The other possibilities are either the 50D or the 60D, preferably with the grip for obvious reasons.
Now, the 50D has AF tuning but not video and is not that good at high iso; it also does not have a high IQ for being a 15mpx camera.
The 60D has video feature but has got no AF tuning and plastic body. I don't care about the swiveling LCD so this makes no difference in the choice.
Should i wait for, i don't know, a new model or what? I can't really find a body that is worth my money.

I think the 50D sounds like it would suit you more? If it was me, I'd get the 50D, because to me, the 40D and 50D are "real" camera bodies. I don't like plastic bodies as they remind of a Rebel too much.

Unless you know you're going to use the video, I wouldn't worry about that. I've hardly used it as most people I would suspect.

I would read the threads about th 50D and 60D in this forum and see what peole like and don't like I never owned either one but did have 40D and liked it a lot and looks like you can pick one up on the buy/sell forum for a good price.

Thanks already.
I live in Italy so i can't really buy used stuff on this forum for obvious reasons and, what's more, i don't have any friend or similar that can lend me his 50D/60D so i can try it out for a couple of days.
My 20D works fine but i can't live with the fact that my 24-70 refuses to find the proper focus. On the other side i found it acceptebly sharp for my standards and since i paid 280€ for it i'm not gonna look for a substitute.
I am also hoping for the magic lantern guys to release some sort of video mode for the 50D or AF tuning for the 60D. That would really push me to buy one of those.

The 18mpx sensor looks sharper that the 15 one, if you have a different opinion you're welcome to post it.

i had a 24-70 same model as yours, and on a 50D the AF microadjustment made no difference...sold the 24-70 for 350 usd and couple of weeks later traded the 50D for a couple of Lenses...i say go with the 60D (It doesnt feel as cheap as a Rebel dont let the "plastic" fool you) and if your lens still shows same issues (thinking the very much improved AF on the 60D vs 20D doesnt help) send it to Sigma Italy...

Maybe, but having 15MP doesn't mean the 50D isn't capable of high IQ.

The IQ on the 50D is very good, I actually think mine 50D had better IQ than my 7D does. Get it and you'll have no regrets; it's an excellent camera.

+1 on the 50D, it is a big upgrade from your current 20D, and with the lens you had you can do MA on it. If you don't do big print, I'm pretty sure 15MP is more than enough.

I have almost the same lens set up as you (24-70 + 70-200). I have been shooting with a 30D for almost 4 years and decided to upgrade recently. I picked up the 7D and am glad I waited a little longer, saved and little more and got what I wanted. It might not be immediate gratification of picking up a 50/60D, but in the long term I know I made the right decision. Save, wait and get everything you want - don't settle for second best as you will always be looking to upgrade again.

Good luck!

So the Sigma doesn't focus properly - maybe that's the problem right there. Xclusix had the same problem and MFA didn't fix it. Why change a body you like to solve a problem with your lens?

Investment in good glass is seldom wasted. You could find a 24-70 L or L prime for the same price as a body would cost.

I think it's better to wait for some more money and then buy the 7D than to wait for a new magic product that will answer all your questions and solve all your problems at a very low cost.

5D Mk II with 24-70 for everything else
