hey guys. just bought 2 Elinchrom 600rx with skyport package from B&H.
Now if I want to use my Nikon flashes as additional accent ocf, should I buy another rx receiver or use the universal. not use the universal receiver would work with the rx trigger. I don't mind adjusting the nikon flash manual, I just want to be able to trigger it.

Thanx in advance.

Just grab the universal one, I'd say :)
That's how I do it with my SB-28s.

The RX receiver will not work with the hotshoe based flash.

The RX receiver has no power source (no batteries) the power comes from the Elinchrom flash unit it is plugged into. Without the Elinchrom flash unit, what will power the RX receiver?

Enjoy! Lon

If you shoot indoors only easiest and cheapes way is to get some photocell triggers that goes on hotshoe.
Skyport will trigger the rx600 and light from it triggers your nikon flashes.
If you need to trigger only nikon flashes then you will need universal trigger

rx receivers (technically transceivers) work on Elinchrom rx strobe units only, for everything else use the universal.

I'm in the same situation as you, I have a pair of 600rx strobes which use the rx receivers and use the universal receivers for my other hot shoe flashes.

Good point. The OP shows that he's got two Nikon SB900 units. Those flashes comes with their own optical slave triggers built in so he can just set the flash to SU-4 manual mode and he'd be all set.

thx for the reply guys. yea I just didn't know if the RX system has different frequency as the universal set. I'm afraid of buying universal receiver just to find out it won't communicate with the RX transmitter. this is for outdoor. I did use SU-4 indoors.

That's the one.

I was in the same boat and ended up going with another brand and set of triggers where the transmitter had pass-through capability.
