Gorgeous plane. Here's a link to a video of the first flight. At $317.5 million (2010 dollars), it's a heck of a bargain. It has a takeoff weight of 975,000 lbs.

Cold soaked fuel hitting the hot burner section of the combustion section on a cold day will do this every time. If that plane sat all night, I think if I remember correctly it was forecasted a cold day that day, it would create that much "smoke". Been flying Boeings and Airbuses for 26 plus years and this is a common occurrence especially in the Midwest and East Coast airports.

I guess I'm never around much for first start ;)
At least not at a commercial airport

Isn't the smoke from all the oil that has settled into the bottom pistons ??
:)

Pistons??

This is a 747-8I...... not a 377 Stratocruiser. lol

I like the chase plane... isn;t a 50s vintage fighter ? A shooting star or something like that?

Looks like a two seater T33 trainer. ;)

Randy, Gear - 3 in the green, and a T5i with a few lenses !

That would be correct, the cameraman sits in the back of the aircraft.
