Anyone ever have the button stick on them? The one in the middle of the thumb dial? I was at a shoot last night and somehow the button got stuck in and would not pop out. I was still able to shoot but it severely limited my options with any menu items because I couldn't select anything I needed. It was jammed in good.

When I got home, I took the back cover off and managed to free the button. Put it back together and it stuck again. Repeated process and it seems ok now but not sure if I can trust it on a paid shoot again.

Anyone ever had this happen? Any remedies? Last weekend I had a beach shoot and the only thing I can think of is maybe sand got stuck in there? I cleaned it really well but not sure.

Thanks

The joystick can also be used to select most things in menus (except deleting images).

Not sure this will work but some people have had some success with using 100% isopropyl to free up a sticky shutter button, you could try a few drops around the set button when you have the back cover off.

I will have to try that, thanks.

Go to Radio Shack and get a spray can of their Electrical Contact Cleaner and Lubricant. Sometimes I've seen it labelled "Color TV Tuner Cleaner and Lubricant". You can safely spray this stuff on plastic and painted parts. It's basically diluted isopropyl alcohol with a light lubricant in it.

Isopropyl alcohol might clean it, but won't lubricate anything. That leaves it dry and perhaps more prone to stick.

You might be able to do that without disassembly (I often use this stuff on automotive switches without disassembling), but if you take things apart watch for grains of sand. I haven't had a "set" button get stuck, but did have problems with the back dial on a camera... seemed to be some grit got under it and was making it stick. A cleaning with a vacuum got that out and all was fine.

I'd use that cleaner/lubricant on the shutter release button, too, rather than pure isopropyl alcohol.

Had a chuckle when I saw "Color TV Tuner Cleaner and Lubricant". I used that stuff years ago on TV tuners when they got flaky. Now I can't remember the last time I saw a tuner that actually had an electrical switch assembly in it.

Deoxit is pretty good stuff if the Shack carries it.

Megapixels and high ISO are a digital photographers heroin. Once you have a little, you just want more and more. It doesn't stop until your bank account is run dry.
