Yes, I was seriously considering the SX230 also, then the NX100 was suddenly on sale for a similar price. I decided it was time to go big (sensor). However, the SX230 system size is really nice.

I see real changes in this market slot. I have a Pany ZS3 that set the standard, I believe, when it was current. Several generations ago...
Now--there's an excellent test and report at dpreview for travel zoom cameras. Rates the Canon best; Nikon 2nd (surprise! thought Nikon couldn't even spell P&S let alone make a decent one.) Sony something 9V a ways back at third. The Pany? Didn't make the short list. That's the ZS10.

The big weakness of my PanyZX3 was the screen. Try and use the camera on a beautiful sunny skiing day?? Point it in the direction you want so shoot. Set it at wide angle and hope! Because you can't see anything on the screen. Even with the screen set at maximum brilliance. Why did I buy this camera? Because it combined so much in a small package. So Hoodman and other devices that add bulk weren't really things I wanted to get. (Had me considering a G12 or P7000...)

So my primary need was to solve this problem with my new camera. Unfortunately, being able to see what's on the screen often isn't a review criteria.

Is this thread open to SX210 users as well? I just picked one up at a clearance shop and seems like it will be a nice semi-upgrade from my little SD400. I'll work on some pics to share this weekend, either in this thread, or another one, or my own, or....

i got this camera for my wife and recently went to see arsenal play swansea in a "soccer" match.

All i can say is that this camera the s230 HS is SENSATIONAL! almost as good as my DSLR!

I don't think there's another thread for the SX210, so why not? There's not that much difference between the latest and previous models. Looking forward to seeing some photos.

I cannot see any photos. There are large white placeholders for a photo with a message saying it is not available, but no photo. Clicking on the Flickr image link says it's private.

My S9100 on the other hand is very disappointing...poor focusing if there isn't considerable tonal range. Should be no focusing there...

The door for the battery/card has a mind of its own. It opens.

As for jonneymendoza's photos, he seems to have removed them from Flickr.

One from my SX230, haven't used it a great deal yet but I'm pleased with it so far. It will save me lugging around my 1D Mk4.

I have a love hate relationship with the S9100. Only talked here to help someone who might be checking out news on the Canon and be interested in the Nikon too. With my camera you can get surprising results if you trust the scene modes and use them well. However, I'm stubborn and still think like I did when I used my Leica for film years ago. Does that make me a control freak?
