That might be the difference between desktops and laptops :D although I would want everything hidden away. If I want to look at beauty I'll take my watch's works over a computer anytime.
On that note - there never ever was a desktop at home :D first computer my mother bought down to the current ones we use - all laptops.

I use to hate laptops because you pay more and get less essentially. I recently have gotten to like them more. I have a Macbook and Macbook Pro. But there is a special place in my heart for a big old desktop... and the raw power you get from it :)

you have to de-activate defrag on the ssd with windows 7 :p

You shouldn't have to - it should be switched off automatically.

Vista definitely doesn't - but Windows 7 should...

I like my computing with me wherever I go.

And space for a desktop... not really... at least none that it wouldn't receive constant kicks. And in the end portability is key for me - if I go on holiday I want my laptop with me.

Raw power - what do I need it for? Photo editing is about the most difficult task I do on a computer in terms of processing power required.

Really? The one build I've done with a SSD defrag was already turned off when I went and checked. It was setup for the Raid Arrays and off for the SSD.

OK - I'm on 4GB -> 3GB usable and have zero need for more RAM.

Even with 5D MKII RAW images? I have 4gb of ram and could use at least double.

Yes, perfectly fine.
In either CameraRAW or Photoshop, although I don't use Photoshop itself that much.
I have no need for more RAM.

Does 16gb realistically help?

Hmm.. interesting. I just use lightroom and it's a bit slow with the RAW from the 7D.

But hey if you have no problems great. :)

It really depends on what you do.

I live in America, we like everything big :p EDIT: I have grown to love big cases... I went to using mainly midsize ATX to huge cases recently... my friend has a CM COSMOS and an even larger CoolerMaster recently... the largest I have us a XClio Windtunnel

I could use more power even with my setup... Photoshop could be faster, Lightroom could be faster... Premiere could be way faster... lol

Premiere is the main reason I got more RAM.

Well... I have been monitoring my RAM usage closely since I added it... I only really eat up a ton of RAM in Premiere... although I haven't tried a 7 or 11 photo HDR in Photomatix... I know that should eat up RAM.
