The moon was only visible for a minute just before this shot and I missed it due the previous long exposure I was taking with the in camera noise reduction on. I did not expect it ; due to the total cloud cover.

I turned off the in camera noise reduction on my 40D due to missed oppertunities, it seems to take for ever as you watch the sun rise/set and are unable to shoot it. FRUSTRATING. 40D EOS

Thanks everyone for the comments; I wanted to get a second exposure without the moon blown out to blend but by the time the in camera noise reduction ended it disappeared behind the clouds. It doesn't look like it but the the sky was in full cloud cover.
