Today I was at the local camera store looking at some lenses. I ws currently trying a Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 outside the store when the 4th shot I took the error 99 appeared and it cleared when I put my lens back on and took out the batteries and put them back in the camera. I tried another lens before that one and it worked fine. Seems to be fine now, was it just that lens causing the error? Or is my 10D getting ready to kick the bucket? Need some advice, anything will be appreciated! Thanks Grady

It could be dirty contacts on the lens

It still can happen
Unfortunatly error 99 is a catch all code for a variety of things
eg: Battery door contacts. lens contacts, bad cable connections inside the camera etc

Well now today I took around 40 pictures then it did the error 99 again and I leaned the contacts again, but now it will take a picture, but I get the error everytime now. :( Worried I need to send it in and not sure if it is worth going thru that and just save my pennies for another camera...

I believe to flat repair labor fee is $180 and you gotta add shipping to get it there.

Sounds like it's time to replace it. A 10D really isn't worth the cost of repair now. You can pick up a 30D for not much more than a repair would cost for the 10D.

When my shutter started dying on my 10D around 3 years ago, I could take a few pictures and then it would error 99 and I would take out the battery and take a few more for awhile. I could tell it was the shutter by the sound. I did have it fixed, even though it was my back up camera, but that was 3 years ago. Doubt I would have it fixed now, but I have had the camera for over eight years and still love the images it takes.
