Some High School JV softball photos I've taken over the course of a few games. C&C more than welcome!

These are great shots! Looking at your focal lengths, you seem to be on the field!

Thanks! Close but not quite on the field, I was shooting behind a fence or netting in all of these pictures. You can see the fence in some of them. The netting is a little easier to work with.

You were behind netting in the last and 3rd to last?

Thanks everyone! I hate the fence too, Im getting better at working around it the more I shoot, although I also liked the way the second one turned out. Im trying to get in good with the coaches so I can hang out near the dugout

RobertMang, Those were fence shots, in the ones without much or any disruption I was shooting through the net. I but the lens (carefully) right up against the fence or net then reach out a little with the lens to minimize the fence image in the pictures.

Danny, any chance of getting your lens between the "links" of the fence so that they are not visible in the pics

#5 is out of focus. What focus point were you using?

Scottyr33: I try! lol I get right up tothe links and push the front end of the lens against them, then usually let the lens out a little to crop as much out as possible. Sometimes it just doesnt work. All of these pictures are shot through a fence and or net.

ZXDrew I use the center point more often than not, or Manual focus if I am expecting a certain play to happen at a certain spot.

You can set the stick (the thing above the dial on the back) so it selects your focus points. Its fairly simple to use. Press right to select the far right, click once for all points, double click for middle point.

Also try pre-focusing. If you know a play is going to happen somewhere, focus on the ground, pull the camera back up to position and shoot when the play actually happens.

@ DannyWOT. I think I see your problem with the fence. If you shoot wide open or very near it, the fence will almost completely disappear. You are already doing all you can by getting as close as possible. If you lens allows it, soot through the fence at f/2.8 or 3.2. I think you will get better results. That has worked for me for the galv fencing as well as green coated fencing and the green netting. Here is an example (external link). One of my favorite images captured by shooting through the green coated fencing.

I try to put the center of the lens in the center of a fence link or as close as I gan get to it.

Hope this helps.
Mike

Thanks everyone for the Advice! Will definitely give it a shot. Was hoping to try again today, but games were called on account of some North Texas Drizzle lol.

The netting actually seems easier to me (as long as its not windy) because it "gives" a little to the lens. The fence not so much. Glad I have a clear filter, or the edges of my lens would be chewed up!
