How safe? Shooting sun reflections directly..

Hi Guys! after being a lurker for sometime, I finaly registered! I work in car detailing and recently I bought my first Canon (T1i) with the kit lens to take pictures of my work,

i wanted to ask what kind of precautions (if any) are needed to shoot direct sun reflection, also are there risks of damage to my camera by doing this, i just ordered some UV Filter and also a CPL.. i have always loved photography but now i can finaly start to afford the equipment (in moderation!)

I'll let others give more detail, but the short answer is no.
Not that you can't harm anything, just that it would take a much longer exposure straight at the sun to do anything bad.

I agree. And unless you're working close to something like a grinder that's going to throw stuff toward the lens, you probably don't need the UV filter to protect it.

You need to be careful with your own eyes, especially when shooting chrome or other reflective details reflecting the sun into your view. It's the same as looking into the sun. Often you won't see the adverse effects for some time.
