Hi all!

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for how I can get rid of the shadow in this picture. I wasn't paying attention when shooting it, and my hubby's shadow is down across her hat, making it uneven. I played with the exposure a bit but then it blows out the top of the hat. Not sure if there's anything I can do, but figured I'd ask here as many of you are so much better than me in PP. Thank you!!

I have no idea how to fix your problem and IMHO I'm not sure you need to. Really, the exposure looks good. All I can think about is THOSE EYES! Incredible!

Thank you! I love her eyes, and I especially love having a camera and lens that can capture what they really look like in person.

I don't see a need to change anything in the photo. Looks good to me :)

Tell your husband to move, and reshoot.

Just crop it tighter so that most of the overexposed hat is gone.

+1, this took less than 5 minutes. Not perfect, but a darn good snap shot for sure!

edit/add: btw, I like the original crop, this is just an attempt to get rid of the overexposed parts.

Thank you! I like the idea of cropping it closer, I hadn't had a chance to get to the computer to try yet today (she keeps me busy!!).

make a levels adjustment layer (shifting the slider dark enough so that the top of the hat will match the rest of the hat a little better) then invert (Cntl+I) and with a white brush paint the edge of the hat that is too bright. You can fiddle with opacity from there.
but, I like the crop, too =)

First of all it is a fantastic picture and nothing really needs to be done IMO. However, if you have photoshop, you could add a layer set to overlay and filled with 50% gray. You could then take a soft brush at about 15% opacity and paint white on dark areas to dodge it. I did a really quick edit (attached). Would require spending some time, but hopefully this will help you if you wish to pursue lightening that shadow.
