What to Get Next

Hey guy's, so I mainly shoot airplanes, I am wondering what would be the next good addition would be, I currently have a T2i and XSi for my bodies. For my lens lineup 18-55, 55-250 and 100-400.
My next major lens I would like to get someday is the 70-200 f/2.8. But that is a long way away, so what would you guys recommend. I shoot both airshows and commercial traffic.

Personally, short of a prime, I think you're in a good place as is.

I'd keep saving for the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II and/or considering a body upgrade. 7D perhaps?

Honestly the T2i is just as good as the 7D, to me I would be more likely to save for the 5D Classic.

If your main interest is aviation (in flight subjects), I wouldn't recommend the 5Dc...

Frame rate is less than stellar and you're sacrificing "reach." Also can't use EF-S lenses on a 5Dc.

Yes, and no. Focusing system and FPS are better on the 7D. How much better is up to you.

And rather than a 70-200, what about saving up for a long prime? Next airshow I go to (Rhode Island one) I plan on renting a prime around 500mm in length. The 100-400 isn't close enough for a lot of individual plane shots unless they are very large or very close.

if ur shooting planes and the 100-400 isnt enough, i dont understand why u would want the 70-200. I own the 70-200 IS II and i find it to be short in reach with the 50D for planes. i've actually been debating if i want to pick up the 100-400 pump lens. How's the 100-400 for you? is it just not long enough or is the IQ not satisfactory?

I personally have no issues with the 100-400 not reaching far enough. The 70-200 would be more for closeups/statics at airshows and at places like LAX with lots of 747's and 777's and are close enough to get away with 200.

Ah probably lol, for me the show in the air is not the only show, check out the El Centro thread if you really want to know what I mean by that.

I think the nifty fifty would work well for your static shots. Gives you great DOF control, very sharp stopped down, only $100ish as well. If you need a bit less reach, then a Sigma 30mm 1.4, more reach = Canon 85mm f/1.8. They will all do well till you save up enough for the 70-200
