I got 2 Photoflex LiteDome Q39 Medium size and 2 Q39 Large size softboxes.

I am about to buy 4 Einstein 640s.
Do I buy this Photoflex speed ring?

Or Can I use this?

With this

Awesome Buy! I personally use the Bowens QuickRing with the SP studio systems Balcar Mount. You pay a bit more compared to the photflex Ring BUT you save TONS of time. After using the Bowens Quickring, you'll never go back to older more archaic speed rings.

Oh and another advantage to the Bowens Quickring is that if you were buying into another system (Elinchrom, Profoto, etc.), you can just buy the insert and you're golden!

I need to buy that ring also. Currently I use photoflex speedring and putting those rods on 5' octa is pain. Last time I bent one the rods. I hear from Dave (tetrode) that newer photoflex rods are easier to bend.

Should I buy the grids for my Photoflex LiteDome?
How often do you use the grids?

Ah, yes, I'm having a 5-foot Photoflex octa flashback. The original aluminum rods were nearly impossible to bend. At least bend the right way. I also managed to fatally deform one. Replacements for the original style rods are no longer available. Photoflex now supplies more conventional rods that are, indeed, easier to flex:

using a bowens quickring you can use that with an octa. Its so easy to open up a 5foot octa....its ridiculously easy. The quick ring works with a softbox but you must drill out the two threaded holes for an octa.

Order what, Bobby? After I pretzel'ed one of my 5' octa's original rods and discovered I couldn't get an exact replacement, I decided to just replace all of the rods in the octa with the new type. I ordered them directly from Photoflex as they were not available (at the time) from B&H. If you click on "Replacement Parts" now on the Photoflex site, you'll be asked if you want to see new products, not replacement parts. Maddening!

If you're attached to the older style, virtually unbendable aluminum rods, I still have mine (used them as plant stakes) and I'd be happy to pass them on to you.

It's actually just the 1/4-20 hole that needs to be drilled out, Alan.

That is what I meant the replacement rods for the octa as I didn't see them on B&H web site. Maybe I will order from Photoflex as they close to me here in CA.

That is what prevented me from buying the quickring as I am not DIY kind of guy. But lately I have installed a dishwasher along with a garbage disposal for the wifey so should be able to handle this quick ring mod.

Good point. Alan and I drilled out both holes on our quickrings. Hmmm next time I'll just drill out the 1/4-20 hole. Thanks for the tip Dave!
