Here is the first photo post from my trip trip last week to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. I was traveling with my dad and we saw lots and lots of Bison.
I took this picture less than two hours after entering the park. This group of bison was crossing the Yellowstone river. That's a steam vent in the background.
This shot was taken shortly after sunrise. It was a really cold morning, about 25 degrees F. A hurd of bison had just swam across the yellowstone. I singled out this one. If you look close you can see frozen water drops on its coat. The lighting for this shot was really tricky. the sun was behind the bison and it was a foggy morning. White background and nearly black subject caused some exposure trickery. Luckily the bison are slow moving and I had time to figure out the right settings.
This was one of the biggest bulls of the trip. We saw this guy while hiking. the trail went right through the hurd. If they weren't so scarey I could have petted one.
It's the end of the trail for this buffalo. I found this skull while hiking pretty far back from the road, maybe 4 miles or so. If something is tough enough to kill a bison I don't want to be around when it gets hungry.
Thanks for looking. Hope you enjoyed.
Dave
