Thanks Buddy

No More stands in this very narrow studio of ours. Appreciate your help. Auto poles and the clamps are the way to get it done:cool: Problem solved !!

The really cool thing is that the clamps can be loosened and the light slides up/down on the pole. Plus the quick release on the poles allows me to move it anyplace i want to put it. Really solved my problems. The plm is a pain in the A@* so i have to collapse it to move it,,otherwise,,its very simple and flexible. Shoot i might even buy another pole for a 5th light.

That's pretty cool. In the third picture with the pink B800, did you drop the grid, it looks like a dent or am I seeing things.

HI Mike,

Great to see you found a way to make it work. Working in a small room really makes you think about making the best use of space and how to have the smallest and least intrusive footprint.

Congrats!!

Northern tool. You can order them on line for 39.99. here is the link i posted on them

https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1014456

here are the shots of the full studio. Im really tickled with what we did. This will let me work from home for all my studio needs. Only issue i have is full standing shots with people taller than 5'-8". Taller thsan that and i have to get thm sitting. Im ok with that.

https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1017430

thanks to everyone who tossed out the information. small spaced studios do work, especially in this non friendly business cycle we are in

Hmmm, your 'advertising' of this product has resulted in it now having the higher price of $50 each, at the lowest price, since is not aparently 'photographic' ! :(

and naming a thread after Robert is going to increase his hat size...maybe large enough for it to double as a large beauty dish!

Fortunately Amazon still has them for $71.99 for a two pack with free shipping. Better hurry, though, only 10 left. :)

Oh, my error, in not checking that the $72 price at Amazon was for a pair of these things! Robert might still get an enlarged head, nonetheless, for the thread naming

BTW, if you're interested in learning more about these units, here is the manufacturer's website:

http://www.fastcap.com/estore/pc/3rd-Hand-c46.htm (external link)

I just noticed they have an "EMT kit" which allows you to use 1" EMT tubing (purchased separately, at your local hardware store) to make whatever length poles you need. The kit costs $35 direct from them, but the benefit is you could now have a silver pole that looks very similar to the Autopoles, still at a fraction of the cost, and probably more heavy-duty. Last I checked 1" EMT tubing was only about $5 for a 10' length. If I didn't already have four of their regular poles I'd seriously consider some of these kits, and I still might pick one up to see what it looks like.

Of course, one downfall of using these (or autopoles) instead of light stands is that you need a solid ceiling to work with. My current studio area is fine (carpet on floor above), but the area I'm going to be moving it to has ceramic tile on the floor above it, so I don't think I'm going to be comfortable using these in a pressure mount between the floor and ceiling. (Yes, they are strong enough that I'm confident I could move the floor enough to crack grout) Since I don't move them at all anyways, my current plan (even before I saw the new EMT kit) is to just semi-permanently mount 1" or 1.5" EMT floor to ceiling.
