She looks like she'd be a good model to work with so it depends on what you want to accomplish with the shots? Personally, I'm trying to learn how to shoot people - I have several people that are willing to pose and work with me - but I don't know 100% what I want to learn (plus the weather SUCKS!) so I've been waiting - browsing here and photo.net for examples of shots that inspire me. Once I have a collection then I'd go ahead and shoot. Goal: To change how people see themselves.

She is all twisted up, and her eyes are stuck all they way over to one side emphasizing the corkscrew effect. She has that, "I'm not looking at you look". If she is going to avoid eye contact with the camera, you might want to have her look at something so she doesnt have that vague looking off into space look.

Mar 29, 2011 09:37 | #5 In all honesty I don't know what I was trying to accomplish with this particular shot. I am still learning how to shoot people and need to focus more on posing, lighting etc... rather than post processing which I have invested a lot of time in. I'm self taught so eventually I hope to better my images. Thanks for your comment & good luck -- I am also waiting for warmer weather! it's cold and dreary in Maryland. On all but one of the shots her eyes are racked all the way to the side so you only see whites on one side. If you can get her more comfortable, and get her to engage a bit more you'll have some winnners.

Mar 29, 2011 21:58 | #8 Lighting with the exception of #1 is flat. Your model could be a knockout if the image is properly set up. I'd try a few different lighting ratios (1:4 or 1:8) for your key/fill lights. Lighting on #4 kept the background white...were the other shots on a white background? I assume so. Not so in the pics. JMHO.

JMHO. Lighting on #4 was meant to be all white...the others were shot on the same white seamless but I turned it grey by not lighting the paper directly. I do plan on using different ratios for my next shoot with hopes to improve! Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 24-105L, Canon 135L, Canon 40D, Canon 50 f/1.4, Tokina 12-24
