what were you trying to capture with the shot?? She looks like she'd be a good model to work with so it depends on what you want to accomplish with the shots? Personally, I'm trying to learn how to shoot people - I have several people that are willing to pose and work with me - but I don't know 100% what I want to learn (plus the weather SUCKS!) so I've been waiting - browsing here and photo.net for examples of shots that inspire me. Once I have a collection then I'd go ahead and shoot.

The only thing that catches my eye is the shadow of her arm on her body - I do like the shadow on her right side - but the shadow from her arm draws my eye from the shot itself. And of course you cropped her hands in the bottom which I would have tried not to do.

Photographically its very good. But the pose is sorta 1970's. She is all twisted up, and her eyes are stuck all they way over to one side emphasizing the corkscrew effect. She has that, "I'm not looking at you look". If she is going to avoid eye contact with the camera, you might want to have her look at something so she doesnt have that vague looking off into space look.

In all honesty I don't know what I was trying to accomplish with this particular shot. I am still learning how to shoot people and need to focus more on posing, lighting etc... rather than post processing which I have invested a lot of time in. I'm self taught so eventually I hope to better my images. Thanks for your comment & good luck -- I am also waiting for warmer weather! it's cold and dreary in Maryland.

As for the hands -- I messed up :( this image was not cropped... shot on my 5D Mark II with 135 L

Well you have the talent, that's obvious. So it's just experience you need which you're on your way to getting so good work, keep it up!

Now that you have added the additional images I am reinforced in my opinion. You nailed everything except posing. On all but one of the shots her eyes are racked all the way to the side so you only see whites on one side. If you can get her more comfortable, and get her to engage a bit more you'll have some winnners.

Lighting with the exception of #1 is flat. Your model could be a knockout if the image is properly set up. I'd try a few different lighting ratios (1:4 or 1:8) for your key/fill lights. Lighting on #4 kept the background white...were the other shots on a white background? I assume so. Not so in the pics. JMHO.

I likes these especially the second set. These are great.

Hilary is very nice, you shoot shoot her more often. ;)

Love the reflection of Hilary lying on the floor.

Lighting on #4 was meant to be all white...the others were shot on the same white seamless but I turned it grey by not lighting the paper directly. I do plan on using different ratios for my next shoot with hopes to improve!

The second set really say something. I'd keep experimenting with your models...they really are expressive. Like number 6!
