I think they look good. 2nd one may be a little warm for my taste but it's good. They look like paintings.

My first critique would be to shoot something other than museum displays. You did reasonably well, as mentioned they are a little bit warm on the white balance. You've exposed them well and thats about all I can say. Show us something where you actually compose and create rather than borrow some staged dioramas.

Just a couple of thoughts on that. The auto white balance on canon cameras is pretty good in natural light. The AWB setting under artificial light is perhaps canon's biggest failing, it just doesnt work well. So when you have to shoot inside, consider using one of the presets, better would be a custom white balance, and the best option would be to shoot raw rather than .jpg so that you can control the white balance more precisely in post processing.

gotcha, I didn't use any of the presets(duh )I used auto(which you mentioned doesn't work well, and it shows on my photos)and custom, but I didn't take a picture of something white to set it manually. Thanks for your help, now i have something to research while im at work.

thanks for your time

good point, but my problems are the mistakes that are not obvious to me at this point, so editing to correct it will be pointless, dont you think? argh! i have lots to learn

I'm still learning too. So it's always good for people to point out mistakes that you can't find. Some people take it to the extreme but others have good advice. Just keep posting and you will get better little by little.

Learn from mistakes.

I agree. If you shoot RAW then you don't have to worry about WB at all until you get to your computer. You can concentrate more on composition and lighting which are the two biggest things.

Do some research on shooting in raw. There are many benefits. In addition to some minor adjustments to exposure, you get to rethink some of the settings that your camera applies to your images after you are able to see the photo. For instance when you shoot .jpg your camera, according to your"picture style" settings applies a certain amount of sharpening and saturation. On a .jpg in post you can adjust those, but they've already been adjusted once so you have to undo what has been done, and there is a quality loss in that process. When you shoot raw the camera records all the data from the sensor and does not apply any of those picture style settings irrevocably. When you edit your photos on the computer, you can adjust those things infinitely without damaging the original file. if you like the settings the camera applies then its a one click solution to convert the raw file to .jpg.
