What do to: 17-40L vs. 24-70L vs. 24-105L

I'll dissent just a touch here because I think the 24-105 is actually a better choice here. I can more than compensate for the 1 stop aperture difference by using the IS so why give up the reach and arguably, some light, since I think the IS is worth at least 2 stops?

Another option (since you have the 50 and 70-200 already) is to consider a used 16-35 II (more cash, I know), or maybe even look for a used 17-35 f2.8 L


Decided to go with the 24-70 for now. The 16-35 is at the top of my list(next to the 85L) and will be in the bag in the future. For now, I got a great deal on a mint copy, so I can't complain.

Based on what you want to use it for and how you shoot, you best option is the 24-105, yeah, the one you sold, bad move. The 24-70 is faster, heavier and doesn't have the same reach or have IS but will do in a pinch.

Ultimately you may be able to convince yourself that the 24-70 is a touch sharper and therefore worth it but it may take a while.
