Here's our mare Chanel, she's 5-6 months pregnant and due in June! I did what I could, but the contrast between the gloss of her coat and the darkness of the ears, I tried to balance it and just do a bit of spot work on the ears and nose.

You did just fine with the exposure. Nice mare. (I like them wide between the eyes..). It's a nice head shot. (I'm guessing she's a TB?)

Copying Chanel's description from the farm's website (external link):

My name is “Cocoa Chanel.” I am a tall, Appendix Quarter Horse. I am mostly used as a lease horse for advanced riders. I am currently in foal to Federalist, a Hanoverian Stallion from California. I am a young mare with lots of personality.

I think she may have been mostly TB, but had a Quarter Horse grandparent or something.

Note that I plan on replacing quite a few of the horse profile photos that are up on the site right now!

I was going back and fourth looking at her trying to guess if she was AQHA (because of how wide she was between the eyes and shape of her (pretty) head).. and her TB characteristics (and the clue that the leather halter is used more on TBs .. and her mane was pulled like a TB or english dicipline). We use to breed/raise AQHA. (though we're down to our last 5 horses.. we don't breed our mares any more).

If I'm not mistaken, I think the appendix designation is one or two generations after a TB parent. (but I could be wrong - never having bred an appendix). The TB lines added to AQHA blood can definately be an asset. My stallion's great great grandsire is Top Deck - a TB. (we bred for cutting) .......... anyway, she looks like a nice mare. .. you ought to end up with a nice foal.
