Okay I plan on buying the pw mini and flex. I understand that the flex fry the 580ex II's, but during the wedding I plan on using the 580ex II on the minittl1 hotshoe and using my 430ex II on the flex on a lightstand in the corner. Should I worry about my 580ex II frying while its on the mini? Thanks in advance

I've been a long time user of Pocketwizard and my current setup is two mini's and two flexT's and two Canon 5dII's. I find that when they work correctly, the results I get from a flash on top of the mini combined with an off camera flash on the flex produce outstanding results. I've had a wide range of problems with them since they were launched being compatible with the 5DII's. My most recent issue was the latest driver update caused the on-camera flash not to fire at all. They suggested I roll back the software update and it looks like it's working now. Still don't think they have the 5DII isseues nailed down and learned to test everything and reach out to them well ahead of time for resolution. Never had a frying issue.

I have been using the tt1 on camera, and 580ex2 x2 on my flexes.
I have been running them for maybe 6 months, and haven't had any problems yet(running 1dmk2n, 1dmk3 and for the past 2 days, 1dmk4)
They have made my life easier, I no longer have to try and keep the STE2 and the speed lights seeing each other, I just set them where I need them, and go to work.

I havent had any problems with frying the 580EXII yet either, and I use them for maybe 60-70 photos a day, 3-5 days a week for the last 6 months.

The PW folks issued a report, with some evidence, that placed the fault at the feet of canon. Apparently the problem comes when you use the 580exII in HSS a lot. They suggest that using the 580exII on camera in HSS at the same rate would cause the same problems, but since the PW opened new worlds for people to use HSS more often thats where the problems become more noticeable.

I havent heard of any frying concerns. All ive read was the distance issues and why they come with that funky new sock. I shooting 40' with no issues at all,,25' with the 580 on camera in the tti and 580's in the other flex units with no issues at all.
To be honest, now that ive got that new mini vagabond and i can trigger the 800's with softboxes, i might sell the wizards. Gonna do some testing in the next couple of weeks in the sun and see how we do. Dont want to buy a pair of 1600's but i think im going to get better results with the 1600's and some softboxes attached when outside in bright light. we shall see.
