wanted to upload some .MOV files back onto my 5DII's CF card. First time I probably just slapped them on the card's root level, the second time into a MISC. folder. Both times:

"No Image"

???

Needs to go in the correct folder. Take a picture, find that picture on the card, put your movies there.

Unless you're saying that you put your CF card into the TV, in which case... i'd make sure the TV supports H.264 .MOV files first.

Thanks, David! I figured there had to be an easy explanation.
I finally picked up a mini to HDMI cable and couldn't wait to see clips and stills on my 1080p widescreen. :D

UPDATE: NO GO

Tried that with video files and some still pics. Camera shows the new photo I took but doesn't recognize any files (.MOV, .TIFF) copied into the CF card's folder from my desktop. "No Image"

Can it even be done? This can't be an unknown issue... help?

Trout, shoot a video using the camera -- this will definitely play into your TV.

Any videos that were not generated by the camera will be unknown to it.

That's not the issue. I've been playing back clips that haven't yet been downloaded and removed from the card. I'm trying to get the camera to recognize unmodified clips that had been previously downloaded and removed, and that I've added back to the card.

strange. when you remove them from the card, are you dragging the bare file, or importing into a program? i'd think with the latter there might be a small modification to the file but i honestly have no clue.

Just dragging them to the desktop.

So-- has anyone ever successfully done this with clips or stills, or am I wasting my time (and yours)?

What are you using to play the file?

If you're using the camera, then it has to be in a folder with thmb file.

Just playing back through the camera (or trying to) via mini HDMI to HDMI > TV.

What's a thmb file? I've tried copying the files to the card's root level, MISC and current date folders.

Would those be the accompanying little jpg files that I've been trashing? And BTW, do I need those files to edit in FCP or PPro?

Each .mov is accompanied with a thumbnail file or .thmb if I remember correctly. W/o that thumbnail file, the .mov can not be played on your canon DSLR.

Don't forget that if you modify the Canon .mov file IN ANY WAY, it will not ever play on the camera.

Regular .mov from around the web will not play either.

No bragging list - I just rent whatever the job requires.

OK, that would explain it. Guess I won't be viewing those clips on my TV for a while. :(

One last thing: Do I need those thumbnails to be able to work with the clips in FCP or PremPro, etc.?

Thanks all for your help! :D
