Did a few prom shots for a friend...not my normal venue. Did this with on the beach, at 4:00 p.m. with a reflector and flash. Would appreciate C&C on the shots. Thanks.

The lighting is even, but I feel like you underexposed it a tad much. I can see your interest in keeping his clothing black, but overall it feels a little too dark.

Great shots for being out of your element though! For a first time, I would be thrilled.

I agree with Luxury, they could be a bit more exposed. Seems like that could be cleaned up with some curves adjusting in PS. Good pictures nonetheless.

I just went back and added .5 of a stop to the image. That was the issue...thanks guys. Had to recalibrate my monitor...probably need a new one! LOL! My wife will love to hear that one.

Wouldn't mind seeing a little more taken off the top and left of twhe second shot. But great pictures! Simple and clean :)

Another great suggestion...might be more balanced?! I'll give it a try. Thanks.

Yes these are under exposed, though yellow is a tough color for digital - any bright color because of digital's lack of highlight retention where it is easy to over expose yellow.

Taking photo 1 into Lighroom: this image looks over saturated, and I'd decrease the yellow luminance by 26, increasing orange luminance some to help brighten their skin, while brightening the image with a tone curve adjustment. Also add a good bit of fill light.

Photo 2 is an awkward composition and pose how it is captured. Couples' portraiture is something that takes practice to be good at, like all aspects of photography. Good luck.

Great suggestions. I'm totally out of practice with next to prime sun time as I normally would've done this within 30 mins of nautical twilight but they had a tight timeline for the prom. I've been doing mostly studio work with mostly single models but that's a pretty benign environment. Appreciate your critique and combined with the others, I think I've got a pretty good way ahead. Thanks again. DN
