Jul 19, 2012 16:28 | #2587 hello Ace, i have a question. how do you get such a close up on the bugs u get? i know u have a macro lens, but i try to do it with my 18-55mm an i can't get that close. if i do get close like yours where u can c the eyes it won't focus, in auto or manual. i have to either back up or or zoom out a little Canon EOS T3i, 18-55mm, 55-250mm IS II,EF 50mm F/1.8 II, Sunpack Flash Digiflash 3000

Then just move in and out for what you want in focus, F11 if possible for higher depth of field. T3i EF-S 18-55II w/grip ¦ EF 35 2 ¦ EF 50 1.8

I haven't used my kit for bug closeups, but have had great success with the 55-250mm...just doing the same thing as Rook mentioned. If your picture is sharp enough, it can handle a nice crop and still look good (and close-up).
