beautiful shot! I've been wanting to to try that w/the water, but there are no waterfalls by me!! None that I know of anyway!!... Great shot!

Thanks! After years away from working with a camera, I'm finding it's still fun. And it looks like this digital stuff may catch on! Don't know where it will lead, but the T3i my wife gave me last Christmas seems like a good place to learn. This is actually a waterfall in the middle of a business district. The background above the falls is a parking lot and older buildings, and a smal park surrounding the water.

That's great! I just got my T3i a few months back also, it does so much & I haven't even scratched the surface with it yet! Still trying to master the settings (mostly manual) Have fun!! Keep up the great shots!

You can try it with a fountain, you will get the same effect.

Yes - I've done that. You could also set up a hose to try out your settings.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

You must be able to get pretty close to your subjects. I have a 70-300 non-L and my birds are usually tiny specks in my photo lol.......

For these two shots I was close. The Harris Hawk is part of a bird show and I got backstage access to take some photos. The Coopers Hawk was in the tree 15 feet from my front door. He's a juvenile that was born in a (different) tree next to my house. They're not all like this though so cropping is my friend.
