The LCRA the people that control the water we get for farming down here from the lakes in Austin shut us down two years ago. There is almost no water in the lakes so they have to keep what little there is for themselves. The goverment has been paying the rice farmers not to farm rice cause rice takes so much water to grow. They can only row crops. We drilled four wells last year for our grass farm to help us get by and the ground water is dropping. They meter the water you take out if things don't get better soon they could start limiting us to how much of the ground water we can use.. It takes years to recover from a drought. It's a mess I wish ya'll luck.[/QUOTE

Water is underestimated by the majority I think, as it is SO important for life in SO many ways. I think it's a long term issue with changes to the weather patterns, and agriculture and horticulture is going to need to learn to adapt I guess. But not easy for those caught up in it.]

Yeah it's a mess can't grow crops without water and can't eat without crops.

Thanks Ace- I used "your" lens, tried to get rid of the magenta in LR. I'm a few hours north of you, and these geese are hanging around with the Swans wintering here. It was a long 75-100 yard walk from the road to the river- so I am lucky that way.

George- Thanks for the kind words. After too many years away from a camera, it's fun to find out this digital stuff might catch on.....

QUOTED IMAGE

The best there ever was or ever will be. RIP.

Hello all, new to the thread but loved my T3i for quite some time.

Playing around with a piece of black velvet tonight:

100mm macro lens. Lit with Rogue Flashbender. I think I will revisit the same shot with a dual-light setup when I can make a trip to the florist again (these flowers are getting too junky to try again).

And just so we can hopefully start a blues-rocker theme, here's one from the archive. Landmark from my home town, and my favorite shot of mine, the Hernando Desoto Bridge in Downtown Memphis:

Sigma 17-70 lens. Sorry if you read that thread and have seen it already.

So whats the scoop on 2x teleconverters. Is this a useful purchase or waste of money?

Lisa, it will only work on your 50mm, and it cuts your aperture in half, meaning 'wide open' would be 3.6 instead of 1.8. I think you would do better shooting anything at 100mm with your 55-250.

Nice shots, everyone!! ...and Kevin, that bridge shot is spectacular!

Thanks everyone.

On the TC: You lose two F-stops by attaching the TC, and if you go above F/5.6 then you can't autofocus. So, it has to be an F/2.8 lens if you want to autofocus.

Even if you are OK with manually focusing, be sure to check the compatibilty chart ( http://www.bhphotovideo.com …arts/canon2xExtender.html (external link) ), I would absolutely not use it on a lens that is not on the chart. The glass can grind into each other, damaging both the TC and the lens!

I know for a fact that there aren't any out there that work with the 55-250 (also the telephoto that I use).

I think generally speaking, they will not work with EF-S lenses.

...also, it isn't a waste of money if you have a use for it. I usually keep it on my 100mm macro, but I can also use it on my 75-300 or 100-400 (or 50mm 1.8).
