Gave the car an evening bath. Wanted to get some night shots in an empty lot but my patience wasn't enough for waiting for my camera and lens to adjust to the cold, it started fogging up. At least my car is clean.

...also, it isn't a waste of money if you have a use for it. I usually keep it on my 100mm macro, but I can also use it on my 75-300 or 100-400 (or 50mm 1.8).

Ok so you CAN use it on your 75-300? Im confused lol If I could only use it on my 50 then it seems silly to me. I'm thinking I just need to play with what I have right:rolleyes:

Thanks Kevin............i will look at that list just so I know.

Honestly, I would learn what you have first. Adding a 2x changes things a bit...the lighting, how still you need to be, etc... Personally, I think I took baby steps when I started shooting. I mainly used the kit for a month or so, then played with the 55-250 for a couple months, then got into macro for about three months, then added the 2x, etc... I wanted to learn as much as possible before taking another step. I compare it to a 16 year old learning how to drive, they don't get their license and drive Nascar the next day. I've only been shooting for a year and I think I'm doing OK, but I still have a ton to learn.

Most importantly...more than buying new lenses, teleconverters, filters, etc..., you need to just shoot a TON of pics, look at the ones you like and see what you did to make them right, and really look at the ones that you don't like and figure out where you went wrong. I shot over 30,000 pics in a year, that's an average of 83 pics a day, I've had plenty of 'trial & error', lol. I would say get a flash, though, as it's a necessity for a lot of shooting.

Some not so pretty birds at the beach, also. Tough shooting against the sky.

Great shots, Belinda. Every time I see shots like that from the 55-250, I wonder why we go ape over the L glass.

Thanks! I always get ahead of myself and try to think of what I will need just in case. I want the easy button lol I know,I know, Rome wasn't built in a day. *sigh* I really need to finish the "Understanding photography" book.

I agree, it's amazing! It's definitely been my workhorse for the last year.

Would the 55-250mm be a good sports lens? Soccer, Basketball. Thanks!

I used it for all three of my son's baseball games and it was great, and it will do fine for basketball provided there is enough light in the gym.

Thanks for the comments on the bird photos! The lens is great if you can get close enough to your subject and have plenty of light. I will be working with it for a little while longer and then upgrade to a longer reaching lens. I'm not sure I want to carry around a big ole lens quite yet! ;) -

greenjeans & Kevin - NICE SHOTS!!!

You could definitely use the 55-250 for Soccer or other outdoor sports. I tried basketball and didn't have any luck! All of the gyms we went to had poor lighting. The 85mm 1.8 lens worked much better for indoors sports.

I had some decent luck for a beginner with the 55-250 for my sons basketball. None were professional by any stretch of the imagination but some were definitely keepers. I just had to play with settings with the gym lights.
