What are you using to stack your star trails shots?

I usually use Starstax for Mac, but sometimes just stack them in PSCS6 with a script.

I was bored today, so I took a little walk by the lake. I've passed this sign so many times and never really thought much of it, till the snow started falling this afternoon.

Have you found any good image stacking programs like DSS for mac?? I've trying to learn to do it on my own through GIMP but it's a long process and I'm not sure I'm doing it right. Just wondering if there's a program you use/found for non star-trail astro photos.

I've only found StarStax for Mac. I've only heard about a script for PS. :(

Yeah StarStax is the only reliable one I've come across, but it doesn't do alignment stacking which is a bugger. I'm completely new to the alignment stacking process so still learning, might partition my Mac to run windows, just so I can use DSS...

Both lightroom and zerene have a 30 day trial, as well as photoshop (I assume you meant cs5 .... but you should know cs6 is out), so why not try them all? But as far as focus stacking, I think you will find that most will recommend zerene or helicon, they don't do much else other than stacking though.

Somehow someone created a version of DSS for mac using a 'skin' called wine. It acts as a sort of stand alone emulator but gives you DSS. I was able to play around with it some and was able to produce this image:

IMAGE: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8382/8539008064_100604b324_c.jpg

OrionDSSComposite (external link) by Sethward79 (external link), on Flickr

The original image and a composite I did stacking on my own using GIMP can be found on my flickr page for comparison. (and no, I'm not doing that to generate hits, just don't want to flood the thread with multiple pictures of the same image)

So many good shots - where to begin!

george - loved that one of the ducks in flight :-)

Ace - nice crisp bird shots as always

Stillcrazy - that sign looks interesting in amongst that snow!

Another bike ride today - although a very short one, as didn't get going until late! On the Pakowhai to Clive cycle way, and spotted these kite surfers at the Clive river mouth.

The last is close crop of the previous. Pretty pleased with it really - the kit 55 - 250 on the active setting.
