I love this camera... I figure I'd bore you with the max number of shots in one post... Some of my favs at least... I generally don't do PP or even cropping though I have PS CS5 and LR4... Not saying these couldn't use anything... Just saying that these are "au natural..(As "natural" as onboard convert to JPGs can be...)."

This might be better asked in a thread of its own, but what do you guys think would be the best use of 200 dollars (give or take) for someone who's just starting out? I have nothing but the 18-55 kit lens and a 16 gig class 10 card. (don't even have a SDHC reader) I know your first question will be what do I like to shoot but I'm still figuring that out. I do miss the zoom I had on my point and shoot (A650 is) so I was thinking about the Canon EF 28-105mm, then if I have enough after that, a nifty 50. But that might be pretty hard... I might be able to sell some other stuff off though so it might not be too far behind regardless.

Any thoughts?
I'm not even sure my next purchase will be a lens, maybe it'll be a flash. I'm just not sure the cheapest flashes would be worth bothering with.

Canon Rebel T3i
Lenses: 18-55 is, 55-250 is, 40mm f2.8 pancake, EFS 10-22mm

Kyle, how about a Canon 55-250mm IS? look around and you will see some amazing stuff with that lens

Great work Ace. Love the bee shots, but all wonderful captures.

The only critique I would have is the light may need softening. The hotspot on the bee eye and the shape caused by light reflection on the hover can be reduced.

With the MT24 I think I may have the best diffusion I have ever had, but (partially because this is a T3i thread and partially because we should compare apples with apples) the picture below is with my 600D and a single flash. Even that needs more work, but in this shot you can see the light is tamed a little.

And the light on the back shows how the flash still needs some work..

Thanks, Bas! That's my goal, but I can't seem to get there yet. My recent ones have a lot better control than they used to, but still a ways to go. My main problem/concern is getting the subject lit-up enough...do you just do that in post? The pics above were pretty dark before I edited them, and there was such an orange glow from the flower petals.

Ace, I must say I think much more of your shots than I do my own, the focus and composition beat me into a pulp!. Once you tame the light you will get even more awesome shots, I am sure.

Although it does not do everything I want, I have a Canon Flash (430Ex?) on a set of balljoints, with a cheap softbox (similar to this) http://www.amazon.co.uk …3&keywords=flash+diffuser (external link) . I currently have another layer of packing foam to reduce the glare from the flash.

The above shots were taken at F/13, 1/160S exposure and ISO 100. I have checked and these have not been edited, so are SOOC. I should probably have gone with some FEC on the first one. As you can see the diffuser does not lose that much light.

I'm loving all the macro shots and am actively looking for a 100mm macro 2.8 to add to my gear. Until then, here's something with the kit lens.
