Just want to confirm that if I get the Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3, the T3i will not auto-focus in the long end. It needs f/5.6 or bigger.

The t3i will AF throughout the range to 600. It's just not gonna be real fast. I have one, but bought a 7d after I got a Tamron 150-600 for that reason.

So at what aperture does the T3i stop AF?? I always thought is anything less than f/5.6

AF on the T3i is stopped by the camera when maximum aperture gets smaller than f5.6 because it would try to work(lots of hunting) at any smaller maximum aperture but wouldn't work very well. The Sigma lens that you are referencing employs a trick to fool the camera into "thinking" that the maximum aperture is still f5.6. When this trick is employed the camera will continue to focus(slowly and erratically) at the smaller maximum aperture.

I realised I take a lot of my milkyway photos at the same location so I thought I'd try something different for a change. Pretty happy with how it turned out!

My T3i focuses fine with my Sigma 150-600C. I don't use it much on that camera because I have a 70D and 6D also. You should not have any problems at all.
