I have to say there is a lot of talent using this model. I am slowly getting the hang of this stuff, but have a way to go yet.

Thank you both, much appreciated. Most of the guys on the macro forum put me to shame, but I am getting better, so I am happy :) .

Kenny, This was taken with my 600D, the MP-E65 and 24EX flash with Sto-Fen and Puffer type diffusers, along with rubber bands and kitchen paper (macro lighting is absurdly complicated). It was taken handheld.

I used F/16 to get the best depth of field that the lens allows, used full flash at 1/160 exposure.

I waited for the hoverfly to settle on a flower close enough to me, and with the lens set to 1:1 I used live view on the flip out screen to get focus ( there is no focus on the MP-E lens, you need to move the camera). I use zoom in live view to ensure focus on the eyes.

In this case I increased the zoom level of the lens and took more shots. The one posted above is just above 3x, which is about 6-7 mm frame width.

Most of the series are posted in my flickr account, if you want to see the progression.
