Despite that there is not official price raise from Canon, everything is still on the rise. I bit the bullet to buy the 580EX II @ $390 a month ago feeling I needed to haggle the price down more. Todays I saw them sold readily @ $425. The new price has gone by $50, more than 10% for this flash.

Some items I appreciate the cost and view as reasonable value for the money. OTOH, the 580 EX II is not an item that screams 'value' to me in any way.

Stuff was already on the rise and the earthquake and aftermath certainly aren't helping. Seems like a good time to be patient and make the most of what you have.

Some things have gone up way more then others it just depends on overall demand.

Not many are going to buy a 600mm lens where as just about half the canon shooters out there probably own a 580 flash. So to make up for the stock that sits collecting dust they raise the price a bit more on the stuff with greater demand. As long as people continue to pay the higher prices they will only continue to rise.

I must be in the half that don't. I thought they were overpriced at $350. I don't use flash much but when I do the Sigma 610 works just fine for me at less than half the cost.
