Like the title says, what 60D combo would you go for?

Canon 15-85 or Tamron 17-50 2.8

Either way is good...it depends on what you need. Do you need a better range or do you need a faster lens?

The 15-85mm IS USM has a great range for travel and walk-around duties. The Tamron is great for when you want to blur out the background. What do you want to use it for?

my vote would be for the Tamron 17-50 2.8 - sharper, cheaper, and it has f2.8

The Canon 15-85 is simply perfect for the 60D. Good range, image stabilization and most important factor - image quality!

i think it really depends on what you need. I got the 15-85 because I wanted something better than the normal kit lenses. And it's a great lens, although a bit slow (so hard to use indoors). Great as a walk around lens though.

If you want it as a general walk around lens, it's great (good range), but if you need to shoot indoors w/ not so great lighting, then maybe the 2.8 would be better?

I vote the 15-85 (since I have that one).

I also have the 60D with the 15-85, very happy with this setup. Decided to skip the regular kit lenses as I feared I would be disappointed and the lens would end up not getting used. After a few months I purchased a nifty 50 for the occasional indoor photos I take and need a fast lens.

I have taken plenty of photos with the 15-85 with a 430Ex flash and got pretty good results inside a stadium. This was at a robotics competition where I actually needed most of the 15-85 range. Not sure a 17-50 would have done the job as I could not move around at will.

Canon 15-85 or Tamron 17-50 2.8

15-85: a good walk around lens, but slow. Almost useless indoors without flash.
17-50: more versatile, but need luck to get a sharp copy. 60D doesn't have AF micro adjustment, so you cannot squeeze every bit of sharpness out of a lens.

I'd get 17-55.

The Tamron 17-50 isn't known for having wide sample variation. And, why bring in 17-55 when that isn't the question?
