Canon 15-85 or Tamron 17-50 2.8 Either way is good...it depends on what you need. Do you need a better range or do you need a faster lens?

Apr 01, 2011 19:59 | #10 i think it really depends on what you need. I got the 15-85 because I wanted something better than the normal kit lenses. And it's a great lens, although a bit slow (so hard to use indoors). Great as a walk around lens though.

Decided to skip the regular kit lenses as I feared I would be disappointed and the lens would end up not getting used. After a few months I purchased a nifty 50 for the occasional indoor photos I take and need a fast lens. Scott

Almost useless indoors without flash. 17-50: more versatile, but need luck to get a sharp copy. 60D doesn't have AF micro adjustment, so you cannot squeeze every bit of sharpness out of a lens. I'd get 17-55. The Tamron 17-50 isn't known for having wide sample variation. And, why bring in 17-55 when that isn't the question?
