What everyone agrees is an abnormal amount of Great Grey Owl activity in Jackson Hole has been the cause of many ecstatic photographers recently.

They seem to have left the area now but I sure will be looking for them again next March.

Is that a captive owl? If not I'm shocked it let you get that close.... and also very jealous.

Photographer Mike Jackson and I were photographing this great grey owl hunting in this meadow. The owl harvested a vole, ate it then flew over and landed about 7 feet from Mike.

It is only an optical illusion created with my zoom lens that makes it look like Mike is patting it on the head, his hand is several feet away. We were very close though and it is a wild owl.

Lol yeah, even though I know hes not actually patting it on the head. He's still really close. I'm no Owl expert by any means, but the ones I have encountered, wont even let anyone get within several meters/yards.
