Loose Lens

Hello, I did a search but was unsure about the terminology so I couldn't find what I was looking for.

I purchased a 15-85mm lens a few months ago. This is a very heavy duty, great quality lens. Well recently, I put the camera on a tripod to try and take some product shots (downwards towards the ground). Unfortunately, the zoom wouldn't stay still and kept falling forwards. I couldn't get the zoom to stay where I wanted it.

If I recall correctly, the zoom part was stiffer when I first received it. Is this just a normal wear problem, or am I doing something wrong? Also, any solutions?

I believe the term is zoom creep. My 17-85 did it. I think you will getting a few different opinions on if it is a defect.

I had a 28-105 that had zoom creep and did he rubberband fix and it worked.

Awesome it worked! Now I just need to get a black rubber band so I don't look so stupid walking around with a normal one... Thanks for your help, and if anyone else has any other advice feel free to chime in!

Your lens is just broken in now and on tripod use it creeps from the wight of the front element. Just keep using the rubber band trick and all is good.
