Yep. Corned beef is on the stove.
Salted beef to those of you across the pond.

It's delicious with boiled carrots and potatoes.
I don't much like boiled cabbage, as it's rather sour-tasting to me,
so the cabbage isn't included. For those of you who enjoy the cabbage,
you'll just have to prepare your own. ;)

Less than $1.99/pound here lately, so I took advantage of it. Love it!

Contrary to popular belief, corned beef seems to be a result of Irish-American
immigrants finding the food much more affordable in America after they were
denied affordable prices of the food in Ireland. There is no
record of the food being a traditional Irish dish, curiously.
Wikipedia explains the history, rather well, HERE (external link), if the history is to be believed.

Try shreding your cabbage along with an onion and frying it in some butter, until it's caramelized.
Taster better than boiling it :-)

It may taste better than boiling it, to be sure, but cooked cabbage is just
not to my liking in any form. It tastes very sour to me.

I'll stick with the corned beef and potatoes and carrots, but the cabbage
is for the rest of you.
Meanwhile, I've got a corned beef brisket to attend to...

Reuben sammiches aside, there's something to be said about a corned beef brisket.
I'm not a fan of sauerkraut, but I LOVE corned beef.

Put your Northern conspiracies aside, and just enjoy some corned beef.
You'll be glad you did. Pastrami can also fit the bill.

Mmmm, Reuben sammich!!!

As much as I love my wine, I sometimes go to a restaurant here called 'The Wine Cellar' and have a Reuben and a Margarita. Cross cultural meal, I guess.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

Hey, now that could be fun!
Bring the different cultures of a country together somewhere, have 'em cook up
some of their regional fare, everybody gets to sample some...

Might be tough to organize, but I see lots of potential there! ;)

Hm.
Far be it for me to disparage anyone's favorite dish, but I'll admit that this one
sounds rather strange to me. I found this (external link) as a definition. Is it accurate?
If so, it sounds great if it's drenched with some tasty gravy! ;)

It would probably have to be at least a week, maybe a fortnight, as we've got so many nationalities represented here! ;)

I still like the idea, though:
Bring together as many nationalities as possible, hold a cookoff, allow everyone to sample
everything, and make a bunch of new friends, while trading favorite recipes and complimenting
everyone else for their cooking skills.
A bit like Taste Of Chicago and similar venues, but on a more intimate scale.

much better than what wikipedia said. no gravy really required as it's served like a stew. :)
