I came across this on Samys website. I'm pretty sure these are rebranded Yongnuo items. Even though the descriptions were on Samys in the tutorial section, I couldn't find a price for them there or on PhotoFlex's website.

Amidst what is quickly becoming a ShoeMount revolution in the photography industry, Photoflex® has taken steps to emerge as the top contender with it's StarFire™ and FlashFire™ wireless kits.

As the leader in photographic lighting, Photoflex® has maintained superiority by not only introducing an easy to use conventional ShoeMount flash, but also building them into kits that create a sense of portability along with professional results unlike any other product on the market.

Found it on B&H for $127
http://www.bhphotovideo.com …arfire_Digital_Flash.html (external link)

The Starfire Digital Flash from Photoflex is a portable, affordable shoe mount flash with a guide number of 80, 3 different flash modes, and the ability to vary power in 1/7-stop increments. At full power, the Starfire recycles in approximately 4 seconds and it runs on 4 easily-available AA batteries. The head has a vertical rotation of -7° to +90° and a horizontal rotation of 0° to 270°. The flash duration varies from 1/800s to 1/20000s. A built-in slave makes it ideal for off-camera use as well as on-camera purposes.

Guide number 80 USA (at 35mm focal length, ISO 100)
3 Flash modes: M, S1 (Slave 1), S2 (Slave 2)
Flash power control: Light level output control with 1/7-stop increments
Circuit design: Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT)
Vertical rotation angle: -7 to +90 degrees
Horizontal rotation angle : 0 to 270 degrees
Power: 4 x AA size batteries (Alkaline or Ni-MH not included)
Battery life: up to 1500 flashes (AA alkaline cell used not included)
Recycle time: approximately 4 seconds (AA alkaline cell used; Note: recycle times will vary based on battery used)
Color temperature: 5600 Kelvin
Flash duration: 1/800s -1/20000 second

If you have the wireless transmitter in the hotshoe, then you camera is telling you the truth. Is is NOT a flash. The menu does not work with transmitters. That is why it is called a FLASH menu.
I just looked at the kit you linked to. The flash menu is not going to work with that either. It mainly works with Canon flashes.

That system is a completely manual flash system. All the transmitter will do is tell the flash to fire. You'll have to adjust the power manually via the controls on the back of the flash unit.

I can't even get it to trigger the flash, should the camera be set to any specific setting or should it just fire when the reciever and transmitter are attached ?
sorry for the obvious questions, i'm a total newbie to ocf

Don't apologize, OCF is fun, but can be a bit frustrating. And when you involve RF into anything, you're always in for a surprise or two.

There should be a button on top of the transmitter. Take the transmitter off of the camera, and press it. Does the LED on the front light up at all? It should be green for a half press, and red for a full press. Red indicating a "fire" signal, and green indicating a transmission (this also wakes up any flashes that have the correct pins, or even the capability of sleep).

Now, take your receiver, power it on. Do the above test with the receiver in sight, with no flash attached to it. Does the LED on the receiver correspond to the button presses/LED on the transmitter?

I think it's funny that the typo in the subject is 'start fire' instead of star fire. ;)

Funny slip!
