The dog was barking his head off so I thought he wanted to go out into the back garden so I opened the door for him but he was not interested in going out, wondering what he had been barking at i noticed down the bottom of the garden behind a load of kids toys was a peregrine and his dinner, a pigeon. grabbing my camera with my 170-500 sigma i started the camando crawl down the garden and got within 10 foot of him. i managed to shoot off some 400 photos and watched him for some 1/2 hour before he flew off.
here is the the result - all about being in the right place at the right time ... and a lot of luck. unfortunatly the sky was overcast and I had to shoot at iso 1250 !

Great shot, but your peregrine is a sparrowhawk.

Beautiful (albiet graphic...) image. I'm not really an expert on my UK raptors, but I am quite sure this is not a Peregrine. Perhaps a Eurasian Sparrowhawk?

Edit: looks like Sandpiper beat me to it!

Peregrines are generally blue-grey on their backs, the chests are more spotted with black, rather than barred like the sparrowhawks, and they have the typical falcon 'moustache'.

Hi Flo, I have been hiding under a stone .... LOL ... but it does feel like it.
Got made redundant about 6 months ago and the 12 months prior to that I was working my butt off for the company. I have now gone self employed doing VR photography (3 days ago) and life is rather hectic at the moment as I am sorting my new office out and trying to unpack my new epson sylus 7890 printer :D
think I will be around here a little more often once i get settled :)
