I saw this at a small park I was walking through. I stopped there because I saw several newly planted trees around one that had fallen, thought it looked good, but when I was sorting through the shots I got I ended up liking this one the most for the contrast between the old leaves turning to compost and the new flower looking very nice.

The angle and/or framing on this shot just doesn't do it for me. It needs a better oomph or something. The concept is there for sure, love the contrast. You need to apply the thirds rule here, or maybe zoom in a little big to make the flower a larger focal point. Just my 2 cents...

Aaaah, yes, the Beautiful Crocus, peaking out at the Sun,, very nice... They are usually the first to bloom, and the Tulips... nice shot... warm and welcoming.

This was the only thing blooming, which is sure why it caught my eye. I didn't know it was a Crocus, thanks!

I did crop this down and had the flower lined up at one of tue proper points for the rule of thirds, problem is here I think that there's nothing else ruing you in the direction of the crocus, which is a small flower barely making it out from under the leaves.

Thanks for the feedback!

I love it! Great capture of spring at its finest. I clearly see the rule of thirds being used and absolutely love the subtleness of it all. Not to spew any jargon for those with altering views, but with spring time here and Easter coming up this month, all of the life and death themes are just too present in nature to be ignored

I like the picture, and Jay is right that this is a good example for rule of thirds. However, I think it's the lighting Im just not crazy about, or something. I looked at this yesterday and thought about it before posting comment, and yet I still can't put my finger on what exactly it is that I'm not sold on. I'm totally sorry I cant be more help. I should just not have posted I guess. Too late now, I'm hitting the button! :)

Boost the contrast a bit and I think the colors wont look as flat. I dont know what the first comment was getting at with the rule of thirds. Clearly it is being utilized! Good shot I love the mood.

With some raw processing time the colors certianly pop more, and I think remain generally faithful.

I still love the original. It just sets a better mood for me..i get that it's spring and everything is going to be bright and saturated and colorful and green and blah blah blah, but the first signs of spring are always very subdued and subtle.

Thanks Jay, it's something I've been struggling with lately when doing my work. It's easy to post process images but I feel that I'm cheating when I start saturating things, smoothing out skin, making eyes shine. I guess it's because to me some photography is art for sure, but the other part is it's record keeping, and I feel like I'm keeping doctored records!
