Think Tank Photo camera strap?

I know some people use these. I used to have a Domke 1.5" gripper with swivel but I hated the swivel part (lots of "cling"ing sounds and potential camera scratching). I thought of buying the Domke non-swivels, but they only came in 1" variants, and shipping to Singapore is crazy.

So I found the think tank photo straps. How are they compared to the domkes? I don't like crumplers or optech (in fact, I'm going to sell my pro-loop away, too big). My budget isn't enough for the wapiti straps that Karl Grobl and Pete Souza uses so think tank seems to be the best compromise for now?

I use a lot of think tank bags as well, so hopefully the quality is good.

Quality is fine. The double sided sticky ones might grab at the short hairs on the back of your neck. Used on the shoulder, the double sided is good for donning the strap regardless how it is oriented. They, too, have metal parts. It's the ring that is included for use when mounting the strap on a back pack at the shoulders.

That I am aware of, the fact that it has metal parts. But not as bad as the domkes tbh.

how about buying some adapt-its from optech to use with your domke

then you put on a cloth sleeve. just get cloth/fabric and sew it into a cylinder to put over the swivels. like this

Thanks, but I sold them all away thinking that I didn't need to use shoulder straps (I have the Herringbone Hand Strap) but now I think that was a mistake.

Apart from Think Tank Photo and Domke, are there any other thin straps I should look at?

I use the first version of the Think Tank strap and it's probably my favorite. Not super comfortable to wear on the neck but if you swing your camera on your shoulder you'll have no issues with it. The rubber on the strap will keep it attatched to your shoulder. The metal rings do not make noise at all. It's worth a try if that's the kind of strap you're looking for.

I LOVE IT!

I used to have an Industry Disgrace, which I didn't like and sold. Then I switched to an old one from a Panasonic video camera for a while until I bought the TT Hydrophobia 70-200. The rain cover comes with the Camera Strap and I gave it a try with just the camera... I fell in love with it! It has been with my camera ever since.

The best of it is you can get it for free with a +U$D50 purchase directly from TTP using an affiliate code.

PS: I have the first version, which is discontinued. The one being sold now is the V2.0 which is supposed to be better as it has anti-slip material on both sides.

If this is the case look at an Upstrap (external link). Best strap I have owned and it will NOT slide off your shoulder.

What I don't like is that it can often get in the way of the camera since I'm the kind of guy that usually doesn't use straps. Plus, it's expensive!

I've asked about Upstrap, but dealers don't have them here. (Canada) I want to see before I buy.
I've considered TT too; I've used Domke for years. They were my favourite; bought a BR7 IIRC...don't like how it stores in my bag. It's great shooting.
The wapiti straps interest me, however, they substitute some skin material for another because I'm outside the US> don't know if that changes the strap.
Surprised about reaction to Domke straps. Understand though that everyone has preferences. They're hugely expensive here in Canada.
Think I don't like about Domke straps--the grip material is only on one side. I would prefer a strap-for-dummies with the gripper on both sides. Told them so at the Domke forum.

Best,

Dave

I think I've been using the Upstrap about a year and a half on my IDMKIII, love it, it's a real shoulder hugger, I Carey it mostly with a 85L or 24-70 but while it's great on anshoulder or around your neck with those bricks. When I had a 100-400, I mostly used it off my shoulder only, nonskipping but with much more weight against a bare neck you might want one of those with lots of soft padding. I hate big straps- A lot, even the POTN strap was too much with strap clips etc, bit I guess you can get them with just a skinny strap. I think my UpStrap strap part is lexan or something extra strong.
