Hello people,

I stumbled upon a pretty awesome deal:
A Sigma 30mm f/1.4 for only 180€. The thing is: it's a Nikon mount. Now, I'm not considering moving to the dark side for this lens ( ;) ), but I figured that if I'd pick the lens up and couple it with an F-EOS adapter, I could use the lens. Now, before pulling the trigger on this baby, I was wondering if there ANY disadvantages at all with using an adapter ring. Would AF work less good? Any IQ problems? Just things I'd have to look out for. Or would it be better to just wait and look around for a similar deal on a Canon mount 30mm? And how much do good adapters run at? (if you could link me to a nice one with AF adapter chip, that'd be great!)

Consider, is the price of the lens, and the adapter less than the canon version?

I don't know anything about the euro...or the lens. So forgive me.

Also, it says here: http://answers.yahoo.com …qid=20100107192343AALmUNs (external link)

That the adaptor WILL make it manual focus. Is that something you'll be able to reliably do at f1.4?

They always make it MF? I thought that certain cool nifty adapters could keep the AF... Oh well, let's wait for some more answers! Thanks for the answer though!

I can't confirm the statement, but that guy seems pretty adamant about it.

Ok, to me you're pretty much one of the Chuck Norrisses on photography, so this will be pretty much true then. Thanks. I'll keep looking for a good EF mount.
A good adapter ring is 50€ anyway right?

Keep in mind that with a simple nikon to EF mount adapter you won't be able to adjust the aperture on modern nikon mount lenses that don't have a manual aperture lens. To do that requires a really expensive adapter. :P

I have never seen or even heard of an adapter that would allow a Canon camera to control a Nikon autofocus lens.

To maintain both aperture control and AF, since none exists you'd have to have an adapter custom made... Probably about $128,000 in research and development, and another $264,000 in initial production costs.... so figure $392,000... give or take.

You know, it might be a little more practical just to buy an EF version of the lens.

Only 400 grand? That's pretty good
Jokes aside: thanks for the answers. Mods, thread can be closed
