Patrick, first off thanks for posting pics from my old "stomping grounds:)!

But then I need to say -- when posting on a forum such as this, you have to realize that most people will have no clue as to what/where "HB" is. I took a guess because of my familiarity with the place having grown up in Southern Cal, and it was confirmed by the fact that your Location in your profile is in Southern Cal, but I'm in the minority here:)!

So, could you please edit your post and just add a line at the top specifying where exactly this is? Pretty please?

Heh! "Back in the day"...well, I'd say you'd have to go farther back:)! But I spent much time there -- I grew up in Whittier, and when I was a teenager I'd just head out and stick out my thumb, down to Whitter Boulevard and then to Beach Boulevard and it was all "downhill from there":)!

I've been there a couple of times since I permanently headed North:

Wow, HB and Whittier...brings back a lot of memories to me:

I remember Bob's Big Boy and cruising Whittier Blvd.
Grunion hunting at Huntington Beach.
Cruising Tweedy Blvd in South Gate.
Harvey's Broiler in Downey.
The Pike in Long Beach.
Knotts Berry Farm...when it was free.
etc, etc.

(I graduated Bell Gardens High School in '63) :D

Ah, Gene, you pre-date me by 6 years -- I was class of '69 at Whittier High!

In more recent years when visiting I actually have spent more time around the Hollywood area then I did when I was young, funny actually.

And you know, as far as "HB" goes, I never went to the Golden Bear, which was quite a venue for a lot of rock and folk musicians in the '60s. I've heard cool stories about the place back then and wish I had made it there for some "night life" but oh well. I hear that it's being "resurrected".
