I have used PSE since version 6 with good success. I now own version 8 and for the first time I am having problems. When I launch PSE the Organizer opens and then within a few seconds it crashes. If I launch PSE and go directly to Edit instead of Organizer it opens just fine. Once in Edit and I try to go to the Organizer the entire program crashes.

Anyone experience this and have a solution?

Thanks!

Well, I've never heard of that kind of problem (but I stopped using Elements several versions ago). My only suggestion is that you check into the Elements User Forum:

http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop_elements (external link)

Also, Adobe has support pages (and phone numbers and such) that you can try.

BTW, do you get an error message?

And, it would help to know what OS you are using:)!

PSE 8 doesn't seem as stable as 6. I've had numerous issues with it. the most frustrating is that it won't do pano's. Good luck!

tonylong -
Thanks for your reply. I do not receive any error message.

I am using Windows XP and I have tried the Adobe Elements forum. There are others who are having the same problem as I have with the Organizer. There have been some replies with solutions that have worked for some but none of them have worked for me.

Adobe Help (phone) is available but it will cost from $29 - $249. I would be better off to spend the money to upgrade to PSE 9 or other software like Lightroom.

What program are you using now?

Thanks!

Well, good luck in either finding a fix or, if needed, doing the upgrade. Sorry about the problem!

I made the move from Elements to CS2 a few years ago, although I did still have images in the Organizer if I recall correctly.

But, Lightroom was in the works, it sounded like a good concept, so when they released the Beta I jumped on it. Bear in mind that I was shooting all Raw and so Lightroom was a "fit" (the early releases only supported Raw files). But, as is common, the earliest versions of LR had issues. I had upgraded to CS3 and so kept that as the center of my workflow until LR had gotten a couple upgrades (to ver. 1.2) and had good reports so I installed that and LR quickly became the "center" of my workflow. Since then of course LR has had very significant upgrades, and I can definitely recommend LR3 if your budget permits. And, if you or a member of your family/household is either a student or an educator you can get LR at a significant discount ($100 USD rather than $300).

But, even then it is useful and sometimes needed to resort to a pixel editor such as Elements. Lightroom doesn't have the tools such as layers and its cloning capabilities are limited so that if you move to LR it would still be wise to have at least the Elements Editor functional. But Lightroom has a very advanced set of organizational tools so if your issue is only with the Elements Organizer you could make the LR move and be happy only needed occasional use of the Editor.

Well, hope this helps a bit!

I've also had problems with Elements v8, depending on what I am doing. I upgraded from v6, and think it was more stable. I think v4 was actually better then both, but that is my opinion, and unfornately it won't run correctly on Win 7. If my XP laptop wasn't so slow compared to Win 7 I would use it, just to use v4. I have seriousily been thinking about going with the latest Lightroom.
