was playing around with my new camera and my lights.. couldnt seem to get this stupid shadow to go away ALL the time.. sometimes it would be there sometimes it wouldnt. Anyone have idea as to what is causing this.. it follows the orientation of my camera.. landscape it will be on bottom.. and portrait it will either be left side or right.. depending on the way I turn camera.. totally lost... I tried different lenses.. and even different body..

Oh.. affter looking at the picture.. im referring to the shadow that runs down the left hand side of the picture.. not the one on his face

on another note.. how in the heck do you imbed a pic, if its on your comp.. and not posted online

Looks like you have the camera set over 1/250 and over. Over 250, say 300, wont let enough light in your sensor( it's too fast for the flash).

Personally, this photo doesn't do much for me. Maybe a close-up of his face with the shadow? But here there's just not enough to make a subject out of.

Does the shadow thing happen outside in the daylight?

I am confused to what the issue is. The light looks as though it is coming from one source. What kind of lights are you using? On camera or off camera flash?

Yup, it looks like he's shooting with a shutter-speed that's faster than the camera's x-sync speed.

Your camera shutter speed needs to be less than either 250 or 200. My guess 200.

Off Camera flash. I have 3 lights, and was trying to figure out which light might not be firing by turning off the lights one at a time.. but it didnt make any difference..

After reading the comments, im pretty sure I was setting the shutter speed too fast. cause some would come out great, others.. not so.. will have to set things up again and try with a slower shutter speed

thanks for the help

Just remember. Shutter speed with flash controls the ambient exposure.

If you say some came out good and others not it sounds like you were possibly shooting in AV or one of the creative modes that adjusts the shutter for you?

Might think about going manual if that's the case and force a 1/200 or 1/160 shutter.

too much shadow on the face and a big one - clone out the wrinkles in the background. A simple tip someone once gave me - roll up your backgrounds in a messy ball - never fold!
